The location for this music video was New Zealand; they used different locations within New Zealand, for example a beach, some woods, and a field - sets for certain shots were also created by a set team. I understand this is a high-budget film but it has some good principals on how to make music videos, for example you need to choose your location and props wisely, as they are visual indicators about the story and so are just as important as the story itself. Having supplies for the actors and crew with you on long filming dates is also important, e.g. blankets, coats (Jess will wear a dress in our music video and may get cold so we need to bring a coat or blanket), snacks and water.
This music video has also taught me that you do not need to be somewhere very large, quiet or real to get good shots - for example the set built for Taylor's frozen wood scene was exquisite but it was fairly small but did not look fake. I understand that we cannot build an expensive set for our film, we don't need to, however it is good to know that good quality shots can be taken in small spaces and then edited with large shots in other locations and still look continuous. We will be using lots of close-ups in our piece, and some of the shots may be filmed on different days and so if we keep the frames tighter we can focus on the character's story better and keep the locations looking continuous. in addition, it doesn't matter if we give directions whilst shooting either as we plan on muting the shots - except for one of the younger versions of the characters laughing which we might keep on a low volume.
